First, a Note on Parvo

  1. Handling the controversial question: is the puppy allowed on the grass at 8 weeks? You may not know this but Parvo is prevalent all throughout the United States and is a HIGHLY dangerous sickness puppies can easily contract. How? If pup is placed on the ground before full vaccination at 16 weeks in any area where Parvo bacteria is present. It has an 80% fatality rate in young puppies, making it a very serious sickness. We have received two different recommendations from our personal vet and then another outside vet on the topic of allowing a puppy to go onto grass/concrete/any ground at very young ages. How do puppies get Parvo? By simply walking on any ground that has not been tested. This can include parking lots, dog parks, vet offices, your backyard, anywhere!! Our personal vet advises us to never allow puppies to touch grass until they have received their last Parvo vaccination at 16 weeks which is exactly what we do. When puppies leave our house, they have never touched grass that has not been treated with a special Parvo killer solution. That being said, the other outside sourced vet stated to us that you can allow young puppies on grass but must wipe paws after coming inside with a wet wipe. Our vet does not agree with this because Parvo can only be killed using special Parvo cleaners or bleach. A wet wipe does not contain these ingredients, thus does not clean Parvo particles off of pup’s paws. All of that being said, if you have no record of other puppies coming to your house and getting Parvo your ground may not contain this deadly bacteria BUT why risk it? We have potty trained our puppies (see more below) to use a litter-box inside with equine wood pellets. You can continue using this method until 16 weeks easily and obtainably. And more importantly, safely.

 Reminders…

  1. Puppy proof your home before ever bringing pupper into it. This means all toxic substances and cleaning supplies are put up in locked cabinets, small objects that are choking hazards are put away, all shoes are placed up high and out of reach to prevent Parvo, etc.

  2. Make a vet appointment to cement the health guarantee we offer (puppies must visit the vet within 72 hours of pickup to validate this 1 year genetic health guarantee) and assure you they are healthy at time of pickup from us. This visit is also for puppy’s next shots!

  3. Be prepared. Buy all the things we mention below and then some. Don’t wait until the last minute to have everything you need!

And remember, you can always call or text us anytime, should you ever need anything! We are here for you. Our phone number is 706-969-0241.

Products We Use for Puppies

We feed all of our puppies the most expensive, best food on the market according to our vet! They sell it in their vet’s office. This is Purina Pro Plan Brand Dog Food — Puppy, Chicken and Rice Formula. It can be found at any pet store, Tractor Supply, Amazon, or Chewy.

Wood pellets for potty training! We have done a lot of work for you and have trained your puppy to use wood horse bedding pellets when they go potty. We utilize these same exact wood pellets from Tractor Supply on every litter we have. For more info on using these to help with potty training, refer to above information.

Potty grate with plastic tray to potty train! This is a good idea to keep inside your home to work on potty training. Puppies go home using this to potty in and almost never have accidents off of this potty area! We like either size Medium or Large in the ones below. For more info on using these to help with potty training, refer to above information.

Buy a nice big dog kennel to use for kennel training. We prefer one that is heavy duty, with a removable pan under the grate for easy accident cleanup! We like this one from Chewy in size “Large,” but you can often times find them used and more affordable on Facebook Marketplace!

Get some really nice, safe bones for your pups to chew. This will help you survive the teething stage with your sanity! We love NylaBones and Bully Sticks.

Bully Sticks — our favorite bone to date!

Nylabones are great too! You can find them everywhere — Tractor Supply, Chewy, Amazon, any pet store, Walmart, Sams…

Puppy pads… lots of puppy pads. We like these from Walmart because they are extra large and come Febreze scented!

No slip food bowls. These are awesome because your puppy can’t move it around or slosh water out of the bowl. They are sturdy and grip the floor! You can also find really nice elevated food bowls of every size at HomeGoods or Marshall’s.

Adorable Collars and Leashes for the boujee owners! You know who you are. We LOVE the collars and accessories from Pack Leashes, link on button! If you use the discount code, KELLEYDOODLES, it gets you 30% off your next order.

Cutesy elastic bows for the girlie at heart. We like this variety pack from Amazon!
